ZIRE: It’s a Ganga!
How do you validate data collection from remote sites for your clients?
CSI, Communication Software, Inc., based in Tucson, Arizona found the
answer with PalmOne’s new Zire handheld data collection tool.
CSI is the developer of Ganga, a unique software that takes raw data from
field observers and converts it into a digital format by data entry
operators in preparation for processing by the LAN, local area network.
Handhelds are integral to this effort.
CSI conducts traffic studies to assess seat belt use for several states
around the U.S. Workers return to the same locations yearly to collect
data. The Zire 72 built-in megapixel camera added a new dimension to the
service. “Now we get feedback that documents our collection not only for
clients, but also for supervisors in the lab that assures
consistency," explained CSI President Ashoke Bose.
Communication Software personnel have been using handhelds for several
years to track safety habits for traffic surveys. Studies have included
observation of seat belt use, child restraining devices and helmet use by
motorcyclists. The Palm computers insure greater accuracy by eliminating
unnecessary manual processes.
Recent technological advancements incorporating cameras in the equipment
provides further reliability. “Our goal is to achieve the greatest
accuracy possible in the field in order to insure total customer
satisfaction,“ explained Mr. Bose. Zire enhances the service we offer
our clients.
Founded in 1991 by Mr. Bose, a former e-business and software solutions
manager with IBM, CSI has conducted a wide variety of studies for
government and private clients ranging from traffic studies, fair market
rent studies and vocational rehabilitation research.
